John Hansen is one of the most successful natural bodybuilders in the world. John won the first Mr. Natural Olympia contest in 1998 and he is a two time Natural Mr. Universe winner. His competition career spanned 25 years as he began competing at 16 years old. John began weight training when he was 14 with hopes of winning the Mr. Universe title and eventually appearing in the bodybuilding magazines like his idols Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbu. He began competing in teenage contests at only 16, when he was 18 he was titled winner of the Teenage Midwest Open. He also came in fifth at the Teenage Mr. America. John won the Illinois State and Mid-America titles at 23 and started competing in national level contests from then on. Once in the National circuit, John realized what a big role steroids played in body building and he made the decision to compete only in natural or drug-tested competitions. John's boy hood dream came true when he won the Natural Mr. Universe title in 1992; he also won the natural Mr. Illinois and Natural Mr. North America that year. John went on to win the Natural Mr. Universe, Professional division in 1996 and completed his dream by winning the first annual Natural Mr. Olympia in Greece in 1998. John began writing his own monthly column in Ironman Magazine in 2000 and has written this column for Ironman Magazine for every issue over the past 10 years. In 2005, John wrote his first book titled, appropriately enough "Natural Bodybuilding." Published by the respected sports book publisher, Human Kinetics, the book was praised by both critics and readers alike. Adding to Johns credits he also has produced two DVD's for the natural bodybuilder in 2006 and followed that up in 2007 with the DVD "Real Muscle" as well as the "Natural Bodybuilding Seminar and Competitions." He started with the 2007 ABA Natural North America Championships and then added the ABA Natural Illinois Championships the following year. John will also be promoting the prestigious Natural Olympia Championships which are being held in Chicago, October 2010. John launched his weekly internet radio show called Natural Bodybuilding Radio in 2008. Each week the shows consist of individuals involved in the natural bodybuilding scene including champion natural bodybuilders, promoters, writers and publishers. John was inducted into the annual natural bodybuilding Hall of Fame in 2008. John was recognized for his work not only as a champion natural bodybuilder but also for his work in promoting natural bodybuilding through his column in Ironman Magazine, his book, his DVD's, contest promotions and his weekly internet radio show. 2009 John was inducted into the national fitness Hall of Fame. Previous inductees include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jack Lalanne, Joe Weber, Lou Ferrigno and Charles Atlas. John was inducted in the Instructor Category for his work in educating the public about natural bodybuilding through his articles, his website, his book, contest promotions and public speaking appearances to schools and other youth groups. John is now a full-time fitness advocate and he will continue to promote natural bodybuilding and fitness to the public by writing more books, producing more DVD's and appearing on more television and radio shows in the future.
